Extensive re-modelling + extension to private residence

Excel Group undertook the extension and re-modelling of a traditional Manx cottage on a design and construction basis.  The existing front façade and gable were retained whilst to its rear a new construction provides an energy efficient and high-quality accommodation.

A mix of traditional materials and techniques ensure the longevity of the Manx stone front façade and modern construction methods and materials provide high-levels of airtightness and insulation, together with mechanical ventilation and heat recovery provides an energy efficient residence.

The brief to provide a contemporary building that sits comfortably within a terrace of traditional properties located in a designated conservation area, were satisfied with careful design and material palette, the result receiving professional plaudits for the quality of the design and construction.

Technical and logistical challenges were presented with interfaces with adjacent properties, façade retention and sensitive repair, whilst ensuring technical compatibility of modern and traditional construction materials.
